A friend of mine showed me his fancy $6000 guitar. Coolest thing. Mahogany and spruce. Unusual engineering. The guitar is guaranteed forever against anything. The neck is unique in that the last length of the fretboard is suspended above the box so it doesn't dampen the tone.
The sound hole is a half moon shaped opening located above the strings just under the inward curve of the top edge of the box.
If someone hit you upside the head, with that guitar, your head would be definitely the worse for wear. The guitars made by this manufacturer run from six grand to two or three times that. The guy employs 12 people in some small midwestern small town.
Ain't American craftsmanship grand. I may take up making handcrafted canoes. I've always wanted to. Not sure the economy would support it, though. Maybe when I retire if that ever happens.
I've forgotten the manufacturer's name, though. I'll have to ask Scott and write it down, so I can come back and edit this so I can sound even more knowledgeable.
In the meantime, it's Christmas and I've been very good!
Tom
