1950 Gibson LG1

Posted by Jim Yates on Friday, May 7, 2010

I'm in the process of weeding out the instruments that I no longer use.  I sold four guitars and bought one, this 1950 LG1.  I've had it for three days and I'm loving it.  It's not a bluegrass guitar, but a small bodied, ladder braced beauty that responds well to blues, finger-style, old time tunes and it sounds great for swing/sock style playing.

I love these guitars. The early ones have some key features, like the tapered peghead, and a steeper peghead angle.

I like it but I thnink that I like a full body gutire better. not saying that it is a bad gutire I my self like the blues and own a small body gutire but I have found that I dont like tem as well as I thought I would. but you got your hands on a sweet gutire. nice

A excellent choice for a small bodied guitar. A "cuddle up" guitar if you will. Easy to play and hold with sweet tone and that Gibson neck. A question, what gauge strings are you keeping on your LG1?

I have Martin Lights on it now.

Well, I've had this little guitar for about 3 1/2 years now. I use it for most of my jug band gigs and find myself travelling with his one, partly because it's small enough to be convenient. I have installed a L.R.Baggs Element pick-up with a volume control in the sound hole that is virtually invisible without looking into the hole from the treble side.
I still use the D-21 for bluegrass and country gigs.
