I relearned a valuable lesson yesterday. I already knew it and had told many others the same thing, but I guess I forgot. Never leave your guitar anywhere that you wouldn't leave your children.
I teach in Peterborough on Wednesdays and the day before yesterday I went up early to visit my friend Don at Ed's Music Workshop and to have some lunch. When I got to the store where I teach and opened the case, I couldn't believe what had happened to the front of my 1958 Goya M-26. There were two white splotches below the bass and treble sides of the bridge. I packed up the guitar, after taking the picture below and headed back to Ed's to see Don.
Don managed to scrape a bit of the white off the front and told me to try some lighter fluid. As soon as I got home I tried the lighter fluid, but it had no effect on the white stuff. The next day I bought some automobile rubbing compound and tried it on the front. Thankfully, it worked like a charm and my guitar is back to looking as handsome as a fifty year old guitar can.

I had a friend whose Gibson was shipped over the North Pole. The finish spider webbed. He rubbed black laquer into the cracks to add an interesting effect.

A few years ago my brother Dave and I went to see my son play at Toronto's Horseshoe and left our guitars in the car in below freezing weather...a dumb thing to do, I know. My 1962 D-21 already had the spider web crazing, so I noticed no difference. Dave's 1972 D-18 looked brand new, but when he opened the case in Port Hope, the front was covered with spider web crazing. He was devistated, but everyone who's played it since agrees that it sounds much better.

I was taught that a guitar likes the same thing you do as far as temps and humidity. Keep your guitar in places where you would be comfortable.
