I got this from a local old-timer Coleman Emberton, who played this one with a flatpick, and could two finger pick too. He may have gotten this from Doc Watson, who recorded it early, but who knows. I think the 1991 D16H is both lead and rhythmn on this one.

This local version I got from Dad is very close to Arthur Smith's 1930's original recording with the Delmores backing him up - Note the second B part is in E MAJOR, not E minor as later adapted, and there is no B7 in the B part either. Apologies for the flubs, this was done quickly. Also, Arthur Smith considered this a traditional tune, although his arrangement differed from all the other fiddlers at that time. 1991 D16H on lead, 1934 000-18 on backup - jbh

Here's another oldie I got from Dad and the gang. I think it was recorded by a fiddle-string band in Mississippi in the 1920's, and some others later. Ustabe, that all the fiddlers, mandolin and guitar pickers played this one. I use the 1934 000-18 for the lead, and a 1940's Kay archtop for the backup.

Demo #2, 2010 Jim Hays Brazillian and Adirondack Slope 12 Fret. Basic, early American Swing tune. Guitar is used on both the solo and rhythm tracks, 1977 Englehardt upright, all recorded poorly on my laptop.

Originally recorded by Sam and Kirk McGee of Franklin, TN, with Mazy Todd on fiddle. My interpretation is traditional, including the backup. Lead guitar is a 1934 000-18, and backup is a 1991 D16H.

Another oldie most likely from the middle Tennessee area, where it was recorded in the 1920's. Lester Beck was an excellent fiddler, friend of the family, and pretty good with the old long bow, so I lifted this one straight from him, including this third part that I've never heard another fiddler play. At one time, everybody played this one so much, it became cliche. I think its time to renew it. I really like the rag progression from C to A to D to G back to C on the fine part. 1991 Martin D16H both backup and lead.
