played in church Sunday!!

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Well, we practiced last wed. night through the PA system at church so everything would be ok on Sun., but Sun. morning things were a little messed up. there was a wedding at our church Sat. and someone messed a little with our mixing board. we performed at the beginning of the service. we did fine, but it wasn't till about half way through our song that they got the sound straightened out. we have color coded foam covers on the mics, and have them labeled on the board, but i think a few were switched. everyone started clapping along when we started, but quit when we started singing because they couldn't hear us good. besides that everything was fine. we both did pretty good. we couldn't really hear each other well, but we made it through. i can't wait to play again. i wasn't nearly as nervous as i thought i would be.

in 7th grade my mom bought me an electric guitar and amp for $40 at a garage sale. my uncle taught me a few chords and i taught myself from there. the first song he taught me was Heart of Gold by Neil Young. i played in a few bands throughout school, but not well. i played the baritone horn in band all through high school, and tuba 2 yrs in school. did percussion for 2 yrs for marching band.when i was 20 i played in a band in bars for about a year, then got married and started a family and decided to stay out of the bars.I didn't play much after that. my guitars have been sitting for years, only getting played occasionally. a year ago we moved to the country. 10 miles from the nearest small town. the pavement ends at our driveway and the road turns to dirt, with 2 creeks to cross without bridges. we started attending Ramsey Christian Church in Ramsey, which is about 12 mi. from our house. i've started playing guitar again, and for the right reasons. i've always liked bluegrass, and older country music, but never tried to play it, and now i'm learning. i want to learn flatpicking first, which is why i'm here.
