First paid gig

Saturday, January 10, 2009

In a few hours, Up Yonder will be loading up and driving to another state and another time zone to play for some folks.  Ok, that makes it sound like a big deal, but it is only around 100 miles.  We will be playing for the Southern Colorado Livestock Association annual meeting at Kim, Colorado.  3 of us in the band have connections to the area, it is where I was born, my son went to school there for a couple of years and my parents live there.  I first met Brad James there in about 1977 or 78 when his grandpa bought a ranch there and we helped him get started with branding and learning the lay of the land.

I'll check back in tonight with and update on how it went.  Last night at practice, Cody and my voices were pretty froggy.  The high harmony part might be out today.  But, I'll stock up on mentholyptus cough drops and maybe start drinking some sort of soothing hot tea.

Husband of a high school English teacher, Father of 3 sons. I am a high school ag teacher. My oldest and I play in a newly formed bluegrass gospel band - I picking on the mandolin and guitar and singing lead and tenor harmony, he plays bass and six string and doesn't want to sing. If you look to the left - I am the one with the mandolin and my son is on the bass.
