Anyone else on Flatpicker Hangout own a high strung guitar? I use an old Yamaha.

I don't have one, but I have an old timer friend who dabbles in a lot of different instruments who brought a D16 something to a jam last winter and wanted me to play it. It added an interesting rhythm component when there were only 3 of use playing, but got lost pretty quick when other showed up. What do you use yours for? I never really researched anything about the tuning and my friend strung it up largely out of novelty I think. Is it intended to add a high end strummed rhythm track, or is there a particular style of playing it is intended for?

I have an old Tak that I have strung in Nashville tuning. Alone, it's pretty thin, but provides a different sound when playing with other instruments. When I do use it, I mainly strum or chop to emulate a mando

It is often used for "a high end strummed rhythm track",but I like to play it around the house by itself. I like to have it handy when we jam as well. I have used it to back Irish jigsat a couple of gigs and once in a while it just seems to be the thing that's needed on a stage show.
Ian Tamblyn, a veteran Canadian siger/songwriter and fixture on the summer festival and folk club scene, almost never plays a gig withou doing a solo on his high strung Harmony Sovereign youtube.com/watch?v=KnxdDZUuybY

I don't have a dedicated guitar for this but sometimes I string one up in Nashville tuning and lay down rhythm tracks with one guitar regular tuning, one high strung. Then you can pan the 2 tracks left and right and it sounds like a 12-string but BIGGER.
