Chris, I hadn't thought about it so I "looked it up" (on the internet, so I know my info is correct LOL).
It's a West Virginia fiddle tune, named for a river in Ohio.
Pronunciation ranges from "Rhymes with coyote" to "Sigh-O'-Tuh, with major emphasis on the "O". The second pronunciation seems more agreed upon, at least at the Mandolin Cafe. Of course, one guy over there thought it was named after the nerve in your back. LOL.

Great job Tom. I never get tired of this one. I went to a Tim May workshop a few weeks ago and was there a little early. I got to play Big Sciota and Dixie Hoedown with Tim before the workshop started. You know I was grinnin'....
