Sunday, while playing a bass gig in Purcellville, VA, I played the best guitar I have ever played. It was a 1963 D18. It destroyed the 1937 D18 I was also playing. It had such a warm, deep tone, which I love. The guy who owned it told me that I could make any guitar sound like that, simply by just using the capo on different frets, prefferably frets I don't usually use. It sends different frequencies through the guitar, helping vibrations, I suppose. I am very eager to try this on my guitar! Has anyone else done this? Does it really work?

I started playing fiddle when I was 12, but I stopped that and picked up the mandolin. It was at this time that my mother said some of the most inspiring words to me that forever changed my life. "You'll never learn to play the mandolin." I had tons of support as a beginner, eh? So I decided to prove her wrong, and started following my brother Buddy around to different jams. He would show me the basics, chopping, tuning, timing, and all of the essentials. I learned alot by watching him and his many bands he was in. During this time, I also started to learn guitar and bass. Mandolin was my main instrument until last year, when I started a band with my sister, Elizabeth, and her boyfriend, Taylor Baker. Elizabeth plays the fiddle, and Taylor plays the mandolin. Taylor is an amazing mandolinist, way beyond my level, so I was pushed to guitar. I do not regret that move at all. I am currently playing in the same band, which is called Banana Express. Taylor still plays mandolin, Elizabeth plays fiddle and clawhammer banjo, and we added our little sister Mary on bass.
