I got to catch David Rawlings Machine in Madison, last night. It was a great show, in support of their new and terrific album.
Dave played his old Epiphone, as expected. He was also playing a brand new (apparently) arch-top acoustic. ( He played it more than the Epi.) I couldn't quite see the make or model. Anybody have a word on what new guitar David is playing these days?

I would like to know the make and model of this guitar also. Very beautiful, cherry sunburst finish, thin body, f-holes - simply gorgeous. Got to see them play in Bloomington, IN Sat night.

I just watched a YouTube live video of Cumberland Gap where he uses this guitar. My comments about a cherry sunburst finish and thin body are inaccurate. I'll blame my perception of the finish on the lighting at the show. The thin-body comment was just a mistake, though it looked thin from where I was standing. Still, a beautiful guitar...

From the headstock I would say that is a D'Angelico guitar ..... what model probably an Excel or New Yorker. These were originally made in a small N.Y. shop and are quite beautiful and very pricey. Recently production was restarted overseas are are much less expensive than the original shops instruments. R/

A friend heard an interview with Dave on Serius. He said it isn't a new guitar. It is a D'Angelico. It used to belong to Homer Haines (Homer and Jethro). Now belongs to Doug Greene (Ranger Doug from Riders in the Sky) who loaned it to Dave.
here is a link to vid of Homer playing the guitar: youtube.com/watch?v=AqaY3q5xHGg
