Well.... Laminated tops backs and sides are less prone to breakage than solid wood ones. A guitar that is solid sympathetically vibrates with the strings a little more freely than a laminated wood producing a different tone. Mahogany tops do not vibrate or move as well as a spruce or cedar top so they produce a different tone. Albeit not as loud many players prefer it. Black is jut a color either stained or painted on. Often to disguise an inferior wood.

10-4, Keep an eye out for an old Takamine, Suzuki, with an orange label or Blueridge. You can occasionally find one for a few hundred dollars and you will have a beater worth playing. R/

hi Rick, no but laminated is laminated & I was just thinking they would just grab what ever top was there in that bin & use it. they may not be the most figured tops but still good even with out paint on them.
