The Rustlanders are a relatively new band out of State College,PA. myspace.com/rustlanders
They're not as well-known as Penn State football but are a great roots/Americana band with elements of Country,Blues,Rock, and yes, a bit of flatpickin too as the lead singer/guitarist plays some Bluegrass in a side project. They do all their own songwriting and from what I hear have enough new material for another CD or 2. A few of the unrecorded songs were previewed at their Summer gigs and they are killin.
I saw them twice this Summer in State College at the Central PA Festival Of The Arts and in Erie,PA at Liberty Park,Pepsi Ampitheatre. After a few songs at both gigs you could hear people asking each other...Who are these guys? They sound great! My reaction too. Their live shows are more jumpin than their CD which BTW is great but with a few more slower songs but the whole CD has been in my car player all Summer. It starts to feel like your favorite pair of blue jeans...a great debut.
If you like good songwriting, playing, just good over-all tastefull music that reminds you of some late-60's early 70's stuff like The Band with maybe some Tom Petty attitude thrown in and a bit of Black Crows RnR seasoning,GRam Parsons,Dylan,Travelling Wilburys, etc. I guess it's not fair to compare new bands to all who've come before and these guys have made their own gumbo out of their influences so it sounds familiar and yet distinctive at the same time. Check em out and you'll probably be scracthin yer head sayin....who are these guys?
