I know a good guy on another website who started doing this so I thought I'd give it a shot on this great new website. If it is ok with everyone one every Sunday I will post a new album for everyone to debate or discuss and hear your thought on the album. I will try to keep a wide viriety of music week to week but please forgive me I am a bluegrasser at heart.
Let me know what you think and I will start with the one below as my first official week.

Lets Start off with a Classic Tony Rice album since he is a favorite to many modern and younger guitar players today.
The album is "Tony Rice" the selftitled album released in 1977 on Rounder Records and later on Cd in the early 90's I think but don't hold me to that.

Oh the memories. A couple years after that came out I was living in Mrs. Harris' attic apartment on Wyoming Ave. in west Nashville. I had a cheap stereo and about five albums, that being one of them. I wore it out! Its on my IPOD now and those songs take me back to a great time in my life.

As far as a critique... Its a wonderful album. I really miss Tony's singing. Its hard telling what he would have released over the years if he could have.

Well Dale I must admit I do not have as fond of memories of this album as you do seeing how I was only 2 when it first came out, but like you when I did recieve this album I also wore it out trying to hear licks and endings, that I still haven't got.
My favorite song off of the album I must admit is "Banks of the Ohio" For some reason I could listen to Tony playing this song over and over. Nothing like a good murder ballad.

Everyone I have ever heard mention this album calls it "the Tony Rice album with Banks of the Ohio on it." I tend to gravitate to Hills of Roane County, another good ole murder ballad, but there is some great stuff in there...

The site is very new so don't get discouraged that more people haven't responded yet. I think this is a fun idea you have here and will look forward to the next one.

I have been, seem to be, and will probably continue to be *out of the loop*.
I've never heard this album. Is there a link where one can hear samples of it?
Given the artists on it, I could discuss them and their talents, but not the album.

Sadly -- the last time I saw Tony in concert, he could barely talk, much less sing
in his magnificent voice he use to thrill us all with along with his picking.

Hey DMiller, I know on Tony's website there is some info about ordering it but you might try some where like Amazon I think they sometimes have sound clips of the cd's they sell.
This is truly a great album that gets misplaced by a lot of Tony fans who stay hyped up on the Manzanita trip. I think every song on this album is excelent and you don't have to hear that Ovation like on Manzanita....

Ahh yes, Tony. A true master of his craft. While I actually am not familiar with this album, anything he does is sure to please. And the tune Plastic Banana is a great tune.
