Our string band group "dynamics" have shifted. We now have a pretty good banjo picker so now I have a chance to put my banjo aside and get back to my main instrument (guitar) and do a little picking. Years ago, when our band was in the works, we didn't have a banjo player and I've always wanted to learn so I took up the banjo and I did OK I guess. But years have passed and I do miss the guitar and am happy to be back. Has anyone else experienced this?

Paul,

I have experienced that too, but not to your professional level. I keep going back between the two because I like both and I make no apology for that. I just can't make up my mind. But that's the problem...I haven't got a mind!

Hey Paul,

Yep did that too with clawhammer banjo!
Then back to guitar, then the fiddle and
spent a few years fiddling...

Now back to the guitar...
Whew!

Guitar will always be my first love, but playing
other instruments can inspire you with new
ideas and approaches to the guitar...

Well I guess "professional" is in the eye of the beholder. We got paid for gigs but I consider us an OK band, LOL. I seem to want to gravitate to where the need is. I think if we picked up a pretty good guitar picker, I'd probably want to learn Mandolin and then try to catch up to the rest of the group. The down side to doing that is, I never seem to be able to get real "polished" on any one instrument. Maybe this will be my lucky break and I'll be able to focus on guitar. I guess this all means I don't have a mind either... Hahaha.

I hear what you're saying... since learning the banjo, it has given me a whole new perspective on the guitar. I think if I took up fiddle, the neighbors would protest severely. LOL>
