Taylor : GS Rosewood/Cedar

Submitted by schlange on 8/27/2008

Where Purchased: Zone Music in Cotati, CA

Year Purchased: 2007
Price Paid: 1800 or so ($US)

Sound

The GS series Taylor have some amazing sound. "Piano-like" is what I've heard them described as, and it's true! The first Sunday I led worship, I looked behind myself on one song to see if the bassist was playing, because the bass notes were so awesome sounding. (The bassist wasn't playing, by the way). Better low-end than most Taylors I've played.

Sound Rating: 9

Setup

Great setup.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

The GS series isn't very decorated on purpose--but I like clean guitars.

Reliability

Taylor guitars are all well-built.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

I've worked with Taylor customer service in the past, and they've always been awesome. Haven't had to contact them for this guitar, though.

Taylor : 600 Special

Submitted by schlange on 8/27/2008

Where Purchased: EBay

Year Purchased: 2003
Price Paid: 1699 ($US)

Sound

Tight, bright sound--the maple back/sides gives it that. This guitar sounds great when doing finger or flatpicking--single notes are very expressive.

Sound Rating: 9

Setup

Great setup as always from Taylor.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

Beautiful guitar--maple back and sides, cocobolo accents, mother of pearl soundhole inlay and body inlay...it's a stunning blond!

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

Had to send it back to get the Expression System fixed a few months after buying it. This was just about 6 months after Taylor came out with the ES, though, and they had some "bugs"--I believe they're all worked out at this point!

Reliability Rating: 8

Customer Service

Taylor always has awesome customer service. This guitar had to be sent in for repair after hitting the stage one Sunday, and they did an amazing job.

Customer Service: 10

Components

Just the ES issues mentioned above. Taylor repaired them for no cost, of course!

Components Rating: 9

Overall Comments

Great sounding guitar that helped me to develop as a player. It responds well to different playing styles, so it helped me to work on my nuances.
