This model is well-known to a select few collectors. This is the Levin "Goliath" model GG174. It is a dreadnaught sized guitar, very similar in the bracing and body size dimensions to a Martin dread, but it is about 3/8" wider and 1/4" longer than a Martin, and this guitar is a flat-out banjo killer! My luthier friend said it is about the loudest guitar he's ever heard. The bass projection is amazing!
This model routinely brings $1000-1200 or more--I've priced this one to sell!
Branded as "Goya" in the US market, these guitars were extremely well-built in an instrument factory in Sweden using hide glue construction, solid spruce (Englemann?) tops, solid maple back and sides, solid ebony fingerboard, solid Brazilian rosewood bridge, and bone nut.
The craftsmanship is excellent, and the hardware very high-quality--better I feel than most US-built guitars of the era.
With the exception of a replacement pickguard and bone saddle, this guitar is all-original, with no cracks or noticeable scratches, other than significant crazing of the lacquer finish. There is a small chip of wood missing from one corner of the headstock. The high-quality tuners are all-original individual Ghent tuners, made from solid brass and nickel-plated, with removable covers. Very cool. Comes in the new hardshell case pictured.
I'm new to the Flatpicker Hangout, but I've been a respected member for many years of the Banjo Hangout (you can look me up there--same name "StudioKing" and you can also send a message to me through Banjohangout. This guitar is listed there as well).
Thanks for looking!
