Hi Guy's

Been on the Banjo Hangout since 2008 just started learning rhythm guitar last week so I am at the bottom of a steep learning curve. In the weeks to come know doubt I will have lot's of questions which hopefully you folks can help me with.

I am curious about Mother Maybelle Carter's Picking Style - The Carter Scratch - Are there any free video lessons on You Tube which explain/demonstrates her picking style. In some of the old Carter Family Clips she appears to have a finger pick on her index finger and I am guessing a thumb pick too.

Yup a thumbpick and a fingerpick... there are available courses in Carter Style ..... http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/what-is-carterstyle-guitar-playing.html provides a good description and a short "piece". Another page with explanation http://suite101.com/article/mother-maybelle-carters-guitar-technique-a278650 ... This is a style more common to frailing an Auto Harp or Open back banjo but can make for a nice clean melody picked with the thumb and pick up of the harmony notes with the " stroking" index finger...... Luck.... R/
