Our Tribute to Doc Watson

The September/October 2012 edition of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine is now available. This is our special Doc Watson tribute issue. All of our contributors have sent in tunes that they were inspired to learn how to play after hearing Doc Watson play the tune. So, we have a lot of fantastic Doc Watson inspired music for you to learn in the pages of this issue.

By the way, we just got this issue in the mail and it's fantastic.  Dan Crary's tribute to Doc is the most moving thing I've read since he passed.  A truly eloquent and fitting eulogy from one of the few men alive who can truly be called one of Doc's contemporaries.  The rest of the issue is great as well.  If you're a fan of Doc, you won't be able to get through it with dry eyes.

When Roy Curry won the flat picking this last Sat he told how Doc Watson changed his mind from wanting to play banjo to wanting to play guitar. The song was Red Haired Boy. Then he picked it out for us in a very pretty fashion. Mike Smyth
