More About Me
Since 1978, I have taught private lessons, group lessons, and teach at music camps across the US and internationally. Presently, I am a regular columnist in Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. FGM publisher Dan Miller says I may be his most popular columnist, and this work has made me an in-demand instructor across the country, and internationally as well. Music camp credits include two stints at Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamp, many turns at the California Bluegrass Association’s and the American River Acoustic Music camps on both dobro and guitar, the California Coast Music Camp, and twice at the British Columbia Bluegrass Workshop.
My approach to teaching focuses on providing students with the tools to learn recorded solos by ear, create their own arrangements, and ultimately improvise. My ability to break down both technique and theory in the service of playing traditional music has resulted in many “aha” moments for my students.
