For Sale: 1920's Banjo Mandolin - 150 USD - $150 USD

This is an easy-playing, nice-sounding, compact little banjo mandolin that can be taken anywhere and keep up with the volume of a jam group. It's roughly the same size as a banjo ukulele so it's very portable compared to some of the larger American-style banjo mandolins from the same time. FEATURES/CONSTRUCTION: Build: zither-style banjo rim design with suspended head over resonator-style "pot." Ebony fretboard. Neck is wider than usual side-to-side which makes chord shapes up and down the neck much more accessible vs. very narrow necks. Fittings: mostly original save replacement skin head and replacement vintage bridge which is compensated and recut. An additional bridge of different height is also provided in case the skin tightness changes with weather. (I never had to change it) The skin head is a replacement and has a fun green/mixed tie-dye sort of design on it. Work done by Jake of Antebellum Instruments (Vermont) included: fret dress, cleaning, recut of a vintage bridge to a new compensated mandolin-banjo style bridge, setup, etc. Decorations: very simple, dots in board, metal "button" on rear of pot, cool new skin head with tie-dye style design. Sound: focused, tight, sort of Gibson-y "banjo mando junior" tonality -- crisp and clucky-loud. Strings: new 32w, 20w, 13, 09 ultra-light set. ANY ISSUES? This is a great piece. I am letting it go only because I am a travelling guitarist and am making room for a brazilian guitar. It is a beautiful example of Gibson craftsmanship and in great condition. It has a bit of tarnishing on the chrome parts but not bad and has a few small scratches on back of pot and a nick in the bottom of pot. fifth string capo was removed and railroad spikes were put in. original Gibson bridge and all original parts.
