I bought a set of these today in medium gauge and I put them on. The G string sounded dead and muffled and I was getting a ringing noise from the string. So I called the shop and they said bring it in. I brought it in he took the string off and replaced it for free and gave me anothor set, he looked at my nut and saddle. He said they were fine. So I took it home and the samething happend again. I cannot buy another set (Of a diffrent brand) I'm out of money till the first of September. So I'm stuck with these.

Just asking but has anybody else had this problem? Or do you think something else is going on?

I've read mixed reviews about the Red Brand strings. It seemed that either they loved them or hated them. I haven't tried them either. I can't remember reading about the issue you are having. So, the muffled and ringing sound didn't happen at the shop, only at your home? Is it the same guage G string that was on there before (before the Red Brand strings)? Maybe a humidity issue at your home not liking the Red Brand material (I guess it has a higher phosphor content than any other string according to their site). I understand you are low on funds until September, but can you buy a single G string of another type from you local music shop? I wish I could offer more help.

Thats alright, thanks for the replys guys.
No they were a 26 like most other mediums.
I talked a friend into letting me have a set and me pay him back in Sept.
These are 80/20 Martin Mediums, I had Phospher Martin Mediums on before the Reds.

But I did hear a slight ringing from this set too, not as loud as the Reds but it's there. These do not sound dead so I'm going to let them break in and see if it goes away.
If not I thnk I will have to invest in a better humidity system and hygrometer and take it to the shop again for a more detailed look.

nd me pay him back in Sept.

Hmmm, still ringing... maybe a loose brace in there somewhere?

(BTW - I love the Martin 80/20's!)

It is not coming from the body. I think the string may be vibrating and hitting the fret. So I'm guessig I'll need a new nut if so.

This is the first time I've used Martin 80/20 mediums. I think I'll like them.
I've use light and liked them.

Hard to be accurate, but a truss rod , can sometimes not be set and give this kind of ring going on.Ez to check, just give the rod a 1/8 turn tight and see if that's it................Steve

Not to hijack the thread but, I've read good things about the Rotosound strings but haven't tried them. Please post your review on them when you try them.

+1 on the truss rod tweak. It it's from the nut being to low, it would be more of a buzz than a ringing noise. Is it more of a fret buzz sound?

No fret buzz. To me it sounds like the string is just barley hitting a fret when it is played. But I will besure to check the trussrod too.

a bad string can develop a buzz. I'm not sure if its a loose winding or damage at the saddle or something else. Especially responsive guitars seem to reveal a bad string's buzz more easily. I've had several of these in new packages typically from smaller producers. Just an FYI.
