Hi, Does anyone here have any experience/advice/opinions regarding baritone acoustics? I keep tuning my guitar down to help with my vocals and now I'm so low I should probably consider a baritone but boy they're sure hard to find.

A couple years ago I played a great Alvarez Yairi Baritone. I'm not sure how much you're willing to spend but I think it was going for around $900 to $1000. I'm sure the shop it was in doesn't have it anymore but I bet if you looked around you could find another. The Yairi's are hand made, great guitars. I've had a Yairi for six years or so and I love it.

I just looked it up on the Alvarez website. It's the YB1 model. It's a Jumbo Baritone. It was a great sounding guitar by the way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have heard of the alvarez bari's but seem to be in the $1,600 range. Tough to want to spend without trying (although I guess some stores have a return policy). Something to consider - thx..

Hi Stamper,
I have an Avante. They are very reasonably priced, and well worth the buy. I think I paid $600-700 new a few years ago. What Avante did was to use a high-end design, put a spruce top on with laminate back and sides. I use it mainly as a color instrument and while it would never be confused with a top level acoustic guitar, it's not bad at all. I'm not sure if they are still being made, but possibly you can pick one up on eBay or craigslist.
